About me

Laurie Macdonald

BACP, UKCP accredited
Psychotherapist & Supervisor

I am a highly skilled Contemporary Psychotherapist, counsellor and supervisor with Nearly 30 years experience in the NHS and private sector. I work in an integrated manner using brief, outcome-orientated approaches.

I am committed to helping my clients gain a greater knowledge and understanding of themselves and so enable them to make the positive life changes they want and have greater skills at managing life’s challenges. Over the years I have worked with the majority of mental health disorders. I have significant experience in working with anxiety, including PTSD, depresion, bereavement and physical health issues. I am particularly skilled in relationship issues; working with individuals, adolescents, couples, work-place groups and whole organisations. I like to make the therapeutic/learning experience enjoyable, efficient and effective for my clients.

I have a wealth of experience in mental health care, this means I am effective in working with the majority of issues people bring to therapy. Please see my approaches page for a more detailed description of how I work. I am a registered Contemporary Psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I am also an accredited Counsellor with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. In addition I am a Humanistic and Integrative supervisor for groups and individual therapists.

Team

Macduff

Macduff joined the team in 2017 and is trying hard to become the calming influence that Halley was. His enthusiastic welcomes can still be rather energetic but one of his new friends said that he was better than a dose of Prozac! As can be seen from his photo he is still learning his role in the therapy room.

Halley

Halley: Therapy dog
Specialist areas: Warm welcomes and loving looks with deep brown eyes!

Halley lived with Laurie in Sussex. He was Laurie's personal fitness trainer for the past 9 years. Sadly Halley died in April 2017 having survived his cancer diagnosis much longer than expected. He is greatly missed by all who knew him.
